Bhutan Climate Platform

The objective of this project is to facilitate low-carbon transition in the Bhutan's urban transport sector by promoting wider uptake of low emission vehicles (LEVs), in particular electric vehicles (EVs), as the preferred fuel source for transport in Bhutan.

The project supports the Royal Government of Bhutan to achieve its vision of carbon-neutral, resilient and sustainable transformational development by using the Nationally Determined Contribution as a tool for scaling up public and private investments in climate change efforts that recognizes that the empowerment of women is integral to success. 

The Project envisages to enhance the resilience of smallholder farms to climate change, especially variation in rainfall and frequent occurrence of extreme events to be achieved via following outcomes: 1. Promote resilient agricultural practices in the face of changing climate patterns, 2. Integrate climate change risks into water and land management practices that affect smallholders and 3. Reduce the risk and impact of climate change induced landslides during extreme events that disrupt market access.

The long-term solution envisaged by the project is to ensure the effective climate resilient management of forest areas including biological corridors and adjoining protected areas, securing ecosystem services that underpin livelihoods, local and national development and climate change adaptation (CCA).

The Project aims to reduce vulnerability to the impacts of climate change, by building adaptive capacity and resilience and facilitate the integration of climate change adaptation, in a coherent manner, into relevant new and existing policies, programmes and activities, in particular development planning processes and strategies, within all relevant sectors and at different levels, as appropriate.
